On this page, we list a variety of models that are useful for printing samples of filament. If you get a sample, such as from Makerbox, or even if you bought a full roll and just want to try out a few test prints before you start printing some keepers, then it is nice to have a few models handy that you know will put the filament through some standard printing experiences.
Yet Another Filament Sample Keycard Edition

Recommended scale: 100%
We print one of these for every single filament we receive. These are useful as color swatches, keep them in a box, and when you’re trying to remember “what was that really nice sparkle purple I saw six months ago”, you’ll be able to pull a sample of it.
Sirlayersalot 60%

Recommended scale: 60% – 100%.
The wife keeps askined, “Why do you keep printing all those knights?!?”. Well, because they make great test prints. There’s some angle and overhang in the sword and arm, lettering detail in the shield and the cape, and even tiny rivets on the head. We print them at 60% scale, to make the most use of our filament samples.
Dinosaurus Collection, 75%

Recommended Scale: 75%
This is an awesome collection of 9 dinosaur models that are super easy to print, requiring no supports. Printing a Makerbox sample at 75% scale will leave you with enough filament leftover to print Yet Another Filament Sample Keycard Edition and most of a Sirlayersalot 60%. Printing at 70% scale would give you a little safer margin.
The Dimetrodon above was printed in Atomic Filament Candy Apple Pearl. We also printed all of our Polyalchemy Elixir samples using these models as they made great little dinosaurs.
Cthulhu Idol, 55%

Recommended scale: 55%
Cthulhu idol is one of the things we print for models that we want to look like statues or sculptures. Cthulhu looks best with a matte texture. A clay filament, like TreeD Architectural Clay, will have an exceptional appearance that really looks like a clay model. Might also be good for printing your marble filaments, or even wood or metal fills. Printing at 55% scale will take a healthy chunk out of a Makerbox or similar sample coil, but ought to leave enough leftover for a filament sample and a sirlayersalot 60%.
The Cthulhu above was printed in FiloAlfa Terracotta. TreeD Architectural Clay also made a great Cthulhu print.
